New Press Releases

(Grants Pass, Oregon)--Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®, America's Favorite Beading and Jewelry Supply Company, announces the arrival of larimar gemstone chip beads.

A recently discovered, rare gemstone found in only one mine located in the Dominican Republic, larimar is also known as dolphin or Atlantis stone for its captivating ocean-blue color. Named after the daughter of the mine developer who first discovered the stone, the name larimar is a combination of ''Larissa'' and ''mar,'' meaning of the sea.

Each robin's egg blue strand contains a beautiful range of natural hues, atypical of most gemstone beads. Mottled white patterns and iron oxide plumes accentuate the stone's semitransparent to opaque translucency. The ever-popular chip bead is a versatile component for use in all types and styles of jewelry and accessory embellishing. Due to the low availability of rough-cut stones, larimar has a high perceived value among jewelry designers.
