New Press Releases
(Grants Pass, Oregon)--Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®, America's Favorite Beading and Jewelry Supply Company®, announces the arrival of NEW additions to their existing line of amazonite gemstone beads by popular customer request.
Now available in a wider range of top-selling shapes and a nice variety of sizes, these new natural amazonite beads offer a captivating blend of light and medium ocean-blue hues with opaque to translucent color mixed on every strand. The stone's natural sheen and occasional iridescent luster further enhance the natural color and add to amazonite's allure.
A gemstone of limited occurrence, amazonite was obtained almost exclusively from certain types of granite found in parts of Russia. More recently, the stone has been obtained from Pike's Peak, Colorado where it is found in association with smoky quartz.
Amazonite, an aqua-colored type of feldspar, has many legends surrounding the origin of its name. The first and most readily accepted account stems from the Amazon River, not because amazonite is found there, but for its close resemblance to other blue-green stones that were formerly obtained in the river and surrounding region. Another account is rooted in Ancient Egypt where the stone was believed to bring courage to Amazon women warriors during the Bronze Age.
