Mosaic Chalk Turquoise Jewelry-Making Components

The new chalk turquoise beads are assembled by using fragments of gemstone, dyed bright with intense color, then compressed with white and tinted resins in blocks. The blocks are cut into beads in popular shapes--such as round, flat round and flat diamond.

Each bead is then polished to accentuate its mosaic patterns, similar to the patterns found in fossil agate and fossil coral. Bead colors include stop-sign red, fresh-grass green, royal purple and deep black. Beads are colorfast with a Mohs hardness of 5 to 6. View the ''Mohs Scale of Hardness'' chart.
