New Press Releases
(Grants Pass, Oregon)--Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®, America's Favorite Beading and Jewelry Supply Company®, is expanding the lines of labradorite, rainbow obsidian and golden sheen obsidian gemstone beads.
Labradorite and obsidian, in new larger sizes of flat round and oval beads, offer a blend of color with blue flashes. Each stone's natural sheen enhances the blended multicolored effect over a smooth broad surface. All beads are machine-cut, drilled and polished for consistent size and shape.
- Labradorite is a feldspar with a mixture of blue-grey and grey-green colors with visible blue flashes. 6 to 6-1/2 on the Mohs hardness scale.
- Rainbow Obsidian is a lightweight volcanic glass with iridescent properties, giving it a subtle cat's eye glow in sunlight. Every movement reveals a subtle sheen, with muted rainbow colors on the stone. Microscopic crystals and bubbles of mica in the volcanic glass create the multicolored effect. 5 to 5-1/2 on the Mohs hardness scale.
- Golden Sheen Obsidian is volcanic glass, naturally formed when volcanic lava cools quickly. Air bubbles are periodically trapped inside the layers during the cooling process, creating a highly desired shimmer effect--the golden sheen. Colors may vary from grey to black. 5 to 5-1/2 on the Mohs hardness scale.
