Topics: Securing Lobster Claw Clasps

Q.
I have been using closed (soldered) sterling silver jumprings in combination with lobster claw clasps instead of the small rings that are often included with the lobster claws. I am unable to pull the rings apart with force but still worry that this is not the most effective and safe closure. Any comments as to whether this is a good combination, or any other suggestions?

Q.
OOPS! Should have tried on the choker I was making before I added the bar/ring toggle, crimped, and cut the wire--it is too tight! Any suggestions for "extending" the length of a necklace without removing the toggle? I'd hate to re-string it as it was a very intricate (time-consuming) project. Next time, I'll measure twice, cut once!

Q.
I live in a retirement home and help the ladies by putting on magnet clasps to make it easier to fasten. I have been able to convert their earrings in many ways: from wire to clip, wire to stud, etc. The one I am unsuccessful at is to convert clip to another finding. There are always sharp metal bits that I cannot smooth. I do not solder and need a solution for this type of conversion. Thanks!

I am making drops, links, etc.. Some of your filigree drops say cabochons. Can I use a crystal or rhinestones in these settings? Like a 4mm stone with pointed back instead of flat. I have bought several styles in these and have lots of crystals and rhinestones and would like to use them in your drop and link settings. Thanks.
