Q.
I make Sterling silver earrings with gemstones and my question is: After I put my headpin through the earwire and then wrap it, can I put a crimp cover over it for a more finished look? How do I determine the right size cover?
- Lee
A.
A crimp cover can offer a finished look, indeed. To select the best size, using calipers, measure the length of your wrap then assess which crimp cover would fit over it, as well as a size that balances well with your design. As an example, if your wrapped section measures 3mm, it would be recommended to use a 3mm or 4mm crimp cover so the wrap was completely covered. From there, choose from the variety of metal finishes to blend with your designs.

If you are hiding your wraps for a reason, maybe practicing wrapping your loops will lead to a loop you will want to show off. For a how-to video and illustrated instructions on making wrapped loops, view, ''Making a Wrapped Loop and Double-Wrapped Loop''.
