Q.
When I send a piece of jewelry to a customer, I'd like to include something extra--a small gift of some kind--in the package. Any suggestions?

One of the easiest and most useful things you can include is a small jewelry polishing cloth. Even better if you can get it imprinted with your name and contact information. Customers will use it on your jewelry and others, and each time they do, they'll see your name and think of you. A card that includes jewelry care tips is also great, because it ensures they get to wear and enjoy your jewelry for a long, long time. Another neat item would be a card that has the birthstones on it.

Things to avoid are items that are useful but don't relate to jewelry, like a letter opener, bottle opener, etc. For more ideas, you can search "promotional items" or "advertising specialties" online. Another "gift" is a gift certificate for a nominal amount that they can give someone else. It might be $5 or $10, and make it clear that the idea is for your customer to give it to someone else. Leave space on the gift certificate for your customer to sign and write in the name of the recipient. It's a nice gift and marketing tool rolled into one! Finally, include a hand-written thank you note with each order. It shows how much you value each customer.
