The mirror image is what we're accustomed to seeing, so people often don't think they "look like themselves" in photographs. There's even some evidence that when we look in the mirror, we tend to prefer looking at just one side of our faces, so we become "accustomed" to seeing ourselves that way.
In terms of marketing, it's a great idea to include photos of you. Your customers and prospects are curious about the person from whom they are buying. A photo builds familiarity and trust.
Consider having a friend go through some of your photos with you, helping you pick out the most flattering ones. Most people look better in photos in which they're smiling, and if the photos show you having fun or laughing with customers, that's even better.
If you can't find a photo you're happy with, consider getting professional portraits taken. The cost is well worth it when you consider that you'll be using the photos in your marketing pieces, on your website, in marketing newsletters, on flyers, press releases and more.
