Fire Mountain Gems and Beads
Presenting the winners of the Bead Star 2008 contest! View the prize-winning pieces and meet the designer-artists for creative inspiration. The Bead Star contest kicked off in April 2008 with a call for designs made with simple stringing, crimping and wire-working techniques. Over 1,000 unique Bead Star entries were received this year in nine different categories including: crystals, heart designs, glass, metals, pearls, plastics, seed beads, stones and under $25. The editors of Stringing and Beadwork magazines narrowed the entries down to 180 finalists -- 20 per category. From there, it was up to Beading Daily readers to select the winners that ultimately made it into the all-star publication. Fire Mountain Gems and Beads reviewed the nine category winners before choosing the grand-prize project by Valerie Aharoni, this year's Bead Star cover piece. Fire Mountain Gems and Beads was the proud $5,000 Grand-Prize Sponsor of the Bead Star jewelry-making contest. The grand-prize winner received a $1,500 gift certificate from Fire Mountain Gems and Beads and an all-expense-paid trip for two to Bead Fest Santa Fe to accept the award. All winning entries were published in the Bead Star magazine, the first-ever publication comprised entirely of prize-winning designs selected by beaders worldwide. |  Photo by Joe Coca |
