Beading Contest Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Can designs contain components from other categories?
A:Designs can contain product from multiple categories. However, each piece can only be entered in one category, regardless of how categories are represented by the components in the design. (For example, a necklace could contain natural pearls, gemstones and crystal beads and could be entered in any one of those three categories.)

Q: Is there a limit to the number of categories I can enter, or designs I can submit?
A: Yes, only one entry per person, per category. Customers may enter any category they choose, provided they meet the age requirements, as long as a separate piece is used for each category.

Q: What other items, if any, are allowed to be in the design if they are not purchased from Fire Mountain Gems™?
A: If it's a bead or beading component, it must be purchased from Fire Mountain Gems™ or made by the artist. Other components, such as fabric, feathers, and items which Fire Mountain Gems™ does not sell, may be obtained elsewhere and incorporated into the design. The majority of the design, however, must be composed of product purchased from Fire Mountain Gems™. When a piece is made by the artist, please note that on the ingredient list accompanying the entry.

Q: Can customers based in a facility enter?
A: Absolutely. Due to facility regulations, we may not be able to send the pieces back to the customer. Facility entries will be sent to a family member after photography, instead of being returned to the customer.

Q: Can pieces made with Fimo or Sculpey be entered in the Art Clay™ category?
A: We are limiting entries in the Art Clay™ category to products made with actual Art Clay™ -- available on our website -- but not projects made with Fimo or Sculpey. You may enter such projects into any other category they may apply to, depending on what other Fire Mountain products are contained in the pieces. If a design contains elements made from Art ClayT you may enter it either in the Art ClayT category or into whatever other category the secondary elements qualify it for.

Q: My child has made some pieces and wants to enter your contest. Do I have to enter them in the Kids or Youth categories?
A: No. Designs by younger customers can be entered in the general categories or in the age-defined categories. However, they cannot be entered in multiple categories with the same piece. Each child or youth entrant is allowed only one piece in the age-specific categories. All other pieces must be entered in the general categories.

Q: My design uses cord/thread/twine as the main component. Which category should I enter it in?
A: Enter your design into whatever category the secondary component(s) qualify it for.

Q: Do entries have to original creations or can they be something that you make from a pattern?
A: Fire Mountain GemsT prefers that customers enter projects of their own design. However, if you are using someone else's pattern, contact that artist and receive their permission, in writing, to use their design for the contest. Please include a copy (you keep the original) of that document with your entry.

Q: If a design uses components from multiple categories, which category should it be entered in ?
A: If a design uses product from multiple categories, you are free to choose which category to enter it in. We recommend that you enter it in the category that it contains the most of. (For example, if you have a necklace made of 60% natural pearls, 30% gemstones and 10% crystal, we recommend you enter it in the natural pearls category. If the percentages of materials are very similar, choose what is visually dominant in the piece.)

Q: Why do you limit which components we can use in a Beading Contest entry?
A: Fire Mountain GemsT limits which products can be used in contest entries for the benefit of our customers. Many of our customers like the pieces in the Beading Contest so much that they choose to make one for themselves. To assist that, we request that Contest entries are composed entirely of products available in the Fire Mountain Gems'T comprehensive catalog. Designs may also contain "found" components or elements made by the artist.

Q: If a design uses "medium nuggets," which category should it be entered in?
A: Category #6

Q: I made a rosary. Which category should it be entered in ?
A: Rosaries should be entered under the same guidelines as a necklace:  based on its components. If your rosary uses product from multiple categories, you are free to choose which category to enter it in, as with any necklace design.
