Mask with Colored Feathers
6B1V
There are so many things you can do to take these great NEW masks from white to exciting. I combined our NEW feathers and a few flat-back Swarovski® crystals for a quick disguise for a masquerade ball.
Before you begin creating your mask, I recommend going through the feathers, determining how you want your finished mask to look, and how the feathers will work in your design. I layered the feathers on the mask, placing some of the smaller feathers, and less decorative ones on the mask first -- I held the more decorative feathers for the top layer. I also tried to match feathers so I could balance the design equally on both halves of the mask; I found the two longest matching feathers and saved those for the upper corners to give the mask a more mysterious flair.

Step 1
![]() | Squeeze a small amount of adhesive onto a toothpick. Spread the adhesive in one section on the mask. |
Step 2
![]() | Place the feathers for the first layer on the adhesive. Continue applying adhesive to sections of the mask and placing feathers to complete the first layer. |
Step 3
For the next layer, apply adhesive directly to the feathers, working only in the areas you'll be applying the next layer of feathers -- if some feathers in the first layer are going to show through the second layer, you'll want to avoid getting adhesive on those areas as the feathers will get matted down and not look as nice.
Step 4
![]() | Apply as many layers of feathers as you feel are necessary to cover the mask sufficiently. Apply your decorative layer to complete. |
Step 5
![]() | You can consider your mask complete at this point and skip down to Step 6, or you can add a little sparkle in areas you want to highlight. If you want to add flat-back crystals, either apply a small dab of adhesive to the area on the feathers the crystals will be placed, or apply directly to the back of the crystal. Using tweezers, place the crystal on the mask.
Apply gentle pressure to the crystal to secure. Repeat where you want more crystals. |
Step 6
If you want to use your mask and not place it in a shadow box as home décor, I suggest adding a handle. Apply adhesive to the end of a chopstick that will be applied to the back side of the mask. Smooth the adhesive so it's on the chopstick in an even layer, then press firmly to the mask. Hold in place until the adhesive begins to cure. Set the mask aside where it won't be disturbed, so the adhesive can cure completely. Once cured -- your mask is ready to go!
