 Using Crimp Tubes with Cording

by Tammy Honaman, Author, Jewelry-Making Expert and Educator,

String your design onto the cording of your choice then secure it to your clasp using a suitably sized crimp tube. For this type of crimp, all you need is a pair of chain-nose pliers to secure it, and the tube is finished nicely with two ends that are a bit wider than the center which offers a professional finish.

Step 1
Using the flush-cutters, cut a length of cording. Pass the cording through one jumpring then back through the crimp tube.
Step 2
Pull the short end of the cording until the distance between the crimp tube and the jumpring is minimal. Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, compress the center section of the crimp tube. Turn the cording and crimp tube around then compress the center section from this direction as well, making sure it is secure.

Pull on the cording to assure the cord is secured to the jumpring. If there is any movement, retighten the arrangement and compress more firmly.
Step 3
Once secure, string on your beads, a crimp tube and a jumpring. Pass the cording back through the crimp tube. Pull the cording tightly so the space between the crimp tube and the jumpring is minimal. Check the length of the design to make sure it is what you want. Compress the center section of the crimp tube. Test to make sure it is secure. Recompress the center section if necessary.
Step 4
Using a pair of flat-nose pliers and chain-nose pliers, open a jumpring. Use the open jumpring to add your clasp. Close the jumpring.
