Pearls of Wisdom
Wedding project ideas and style how-to’s for brides, bridal jewelry designers and wedding planners.
Instant Earrings for Brides and Bridesmaids
With the economy struggling, studies are finding that jewelry is one area brides are eliminating from their wedding budgets. Fortunately, DIY brides know better than this. Because brides are busy and searching for simplicity, the featured earring designs in this Pearls of Wisdom project will not only fit well within your wedding budget, they'll fit within your schedule as well. Each of these designs is similar to the latest earring styles featured in leading bridal fashion magazines, and they can all be made in under 15 minutes.
Make matching sets for your bridesmaids in either the pictured clear crystal and white pearls or in colors matching your bridesmaids' dresses.
The Real Chandelier
Made from German crystal chandelier components, this shoulder-duster style defines elegance. The bottom crystal of each is a drop and the rest are links. Simply connect them all with large jumprings and use two smaller jumprings to attach to the earwire. (Note: the style of the featured earwires is such that requires two jumprings. Other earwire styles may only need one.) The result is a sultry look of luxury that goes exceptionally well with up-dos.
The Luxury Hoop
This design is so easy to make and glamorous to wear you'll want to make a pair for all your friends and family as well as yourself and your bridesmaids. Use ready-to-wear sterling silver hoops and slide on two Swarovski crystal pearls, two silver-plated crystal rondelle spacer beads and one large crystal rondelle in the order pictured. Using chain-nose pliers, bend the end of the wire 90 degrees to form a hook for the loop. Repeat for the other earring.
The Tassel Dangle
Your friends will be impressed when you tell them you made these, and they will marvel over how you did the tassel. Only you will know the secret: the tassels are ready-made. All you have to do is attach an eyepin to the loop on the tassel and string on the beads of your choice (in this case, a sterling silver rondelle, two different-sized Swarovski crystal pearls and a Swarovski crystal bicone bead). Make a simple loop and attach to a sterling silver post-with-loop earwire. Do the same for the other earring.
The Multi-Teardrop Dangle
Taking on a vintage style, this timeless pair of faceted Swarovski crystal teardrop earrings is heightened to a new level of brilliance with the use of sterling silver and cubic zirconia leverback earwires. String a teardrop onto a sterling silver headpin and make a simple loop. Attach an eyepin to the loop and string on another teardrop. Make a loop on the opposite end of the eyepin and repeat for the third and final teardrop. Attach to the loop of the earwire. Do the same for the other earring to complete the pair.
This classic style also has a vintage appeal that is further enhanced with sterling silver, marquise-accented fishhook earwires. Make these the same as the pair above by stringing a Swarovski teardrop pearl onto a headpin and making a simple loop. Attach the loop to an eyepin and string on another teardrop pearl bead. Repeat until the earrings reach your desired length and attach to the earwire. Do the same for the other earring.
