Summer 2010

Stuart speaking with our customer TART Bijoux

Fire Mountain Gems and Beads attended the MAGIC Marketplace and Accessories: The Show in Las Vegas. The shows occur twice a year, every February for spring/summer fashion and accessory lines, and every August for fall/winter lines.

The shows are held in the Las Vegas Convention Center and at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they make up two of the pre-eminent trade events in the international fashion industry, hosting thousands of global buyers and sellers of men's, women's and children's apparel, footwear, accessories and sourcing resources. Attending these shows gives Fire Mountain Gems and Beads the first look at emerging trends, including key colors and materials. We also have the opportunity to meet the exhibiting designers, many of whom are Fire Mountain Gems and Beads' customers.

Unlike the slogan "What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas," the objective is to share important findings with employees, as well as to keep designer-artist customers up-to-date with the latest trend information. Fire Mountain Gems and Beads logs many, many miles on the tradeshow floors, to uncover and report on the key upcoming fashion and jewelry trends. Below are the notes for this summer's key trends.

Jewelry Fashion on the Show Floor

Charmed Accessories --create a story with clusters of inspirational words and symbols, themed charms and story-telling imagery encased in epoxy or photo-frame drops.

Long Layers --worn in waist-length layers, multiple strands of pearls and mixed styles of chain are decorating necklines. Most feature asymmetrical focal pieces that draw attention to the season's key themes, such as flowers, shells and antiqued filigree components.

White and Natural-Colored Pearls --elegant and contemporary, natural-colored pearls are seen in every style--layered, knotted and mixed with vibrant pops of the season's hottest colors.

Antiqued Metal --gold is the prominent metal, with affordable brass and pewter remaining quite popular. Chains are seen in multiple layers with mixed styles and sizes of links. Metal beads, drops and focal components tend to have a brushed, or textured surface.

Natural Materials --shell, wood, seeds and nuts are key design elements, combining natural materials in simple shapes with intricately carved details and inlaid patterns. Most often, designs feature matte wood materials mixed with lustrous shell.

Key Colors at the Show

Neutrals, such as grey, khaki, cream, black and white, were seen as the base for most clothing and accessories for spring/summer lines, with bright pops of color added to bring feelings of joy and happiness. The most prominent vibrant colors are orange, aqua blue, purple, teal and bright yellow.

Design With…In addition to attending the Las Vegas jewelry and accessories shows, the Fire Mountain Gems and Beads' Style Team also works closely with the world's premier trend and color-forecasting services to bring you the latest fashion, color and jewelry forecasts for creating style that sells.
