Collar-Style Necklace and Earring Set with Chainmaille, Swarovski Crystal and Gold-Plated Brass Paddle Pins

Necklace

STEP 1
String one silver-plated 3mm round bead, one Swarovski Blaze 8mm bicone and one silver-plated 3mm round bead onto a gold-plated paddle pin. Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush-cutters, form a simple loop on the straight end of the wire creating an 8mm bicone bead drop. Repeat to create twenty-two 8mm bicone bead drops using four of each color bicone from the Blaze collection.

Create a 6mm bead drop using one Swarovski Oregon Evening 6mm bicone and one gold-plated headpin. Repeat to create forty-three 6mm bead drops using four of each color bicone except sunflower from the Oregon Evening collection. Create only three sunflower drops.
STEP 2
Open a gold-plated 6mm jumpring. Pass it through the loop on the hand clip clasp and two additional closed gold-plated 6mm jumprings. Close the jumpring.
STEP 3
Open a gold-plated 10mm twisted jumpring and pass it through eight closed silver-plated 6mm jumprings and close. Place another twisted jumpring through all the silver-plated jumprings next to the first twisted jumpring. Open a twisted jumpring and pass it through two adjacent silver-plated jumprings and six additional closed silver-plated jumprings. Close the jumpring.

Open another twisted jumpring and pass it through the silver-plated jumprings next to the twisted one. Open a twisted jumpring and pass it through the two center silver-plated jumprings and six additional closed silver-plated jumprings. Place another twisted jumpring next to this one. You should now have a short chain of three doubled links of twisted gold-plated jumprings and two links of doubled silver-plated jumprings. On each end of the chain should be six loose silver-plated jumprings. In the middle of the chain should be two free jumprings to the north and two free jumprings to the south.

Continue creating this double link chain until you have forty-four doubled gold-plated twisted links.
STEP 4
Open a gold-plated twisted jumpring and pass it between the two twisted jumprings and around, not through, the two middle silver-plated jumprings at the end of your chain and the two gold-plated jumprings from the clasp assembly in Step 2 and close. There still should be two free jumprings to the north and two free jumprings to the south.
STEP 5
Open a twisted jumpring and pass it through two closed silver-plated jumprings. Place it between the two twisted jumprings of your first link, around the two silver-plated jumprings holding the links together and between the twisted jumprings of link two. Close the jumpring.

Continue placing twisted jumprings between your double twisted links and around the closed silver-plated jumprings adding two additional jumprings to the north each time until you get to the end of your chain for a total of forty-five additional single twisted jumprings. Do not add any additional silver-plated jumprings to the last jumpring. This is the jumpring that your clasp will clip to. Every single and double twisted jumpring link should now have two free jumprings to the north. Every double twisted link should also have two free jumprings to the south.
STEP 6
At the clasp end of your chain add two silver-plated jumprings to the two free silver-plated jumprings at the south side of your chain. Turn your chain upside down and flip the last two jumprings down, so they hang down as far as possible (the bottom of the jumprings are now the tops). Pass two gold-plated 6mm jumprings through the top of the last set of jumprings. Pass two silver-plated jumprings through the last two gold jumprings and two additional closed silver-plated jumprings. Flip the last two jumprings down, so they hang down as far as possible (the bottom of the jumprings are now the tops). Pass two gold-plated 6mm jumprings through the top of the last set of jumprings and two additional closed silver-plated jumprings. Repeat Step 6 on the south side of each of the doubled gold-plated twisted links. This will create a series of forty-four Byzantine links with two free silver-plated jumprings at the ends of each on the south side of your chain.
STEP 7
Starting at the clasp end of your chain connect two adjacent Byzantine links by passing a gold-plated jumpring through the bottom four silver-plated jumprings. Pass the jumpring through the loop of an 8mm drop created in Step 1 and close. Open a second gold-plated jumpring place it next to the last one and close. Continue joining Byzantine links along your chain adding 8mm drops in this order as you go:
  • Two crystal metallic light gold 2X
  • Two fuchsia AB
  • Two light Siam AB
  • Two fire opal
  • Two sun
  • Two topaz
  • Two sun
  • Two fire opal
  • Two light Siam AB
  • Two fuchsia AB
  • Two crystal metallic light gold 2X
STEP 8
Open the loop on an Indian red 6mm bead drop created in Step 1. Pass it through the bottom of the second single 10mm twisted jumpring on the main chain. This drop will hang in the center of the loop created by the connected Byzantine links. Attach another Indian red 6mm bead drop to the next single 10mm twisted jumpring with a 6mm gold-plated jumpring. Drops in the center of the Byzantine links should be connected directly to the twisted jumprings. Drops between Byzantine loops are connected with a gold-plated jumpring.

Continue to attach one 6mm bead drop on the bottom of each single 10mm twisted jumpring down the length of the necklace in the following order:
  • Four Indian red
  • Four tanzanite
  • Four aquamarine AB
  • Four light amethyst
  • Four light peach
  • Three sunflower
  • Four light peach
  • Four light amethyst
  • Four aquamarine AB
  • Four tanzanite
  • Four Indian red
STEP 9
Using flush-cutters, cut a 22-inch length of Accu-Flex® professional-quality beading wire. String one crimp tube onto the wire. Pass the wire through the north side of the first single 10mm twisted jumpring and back through the crimp tube leaving one end of the wire approximately one inch long. Pull the crimp tight against the jumpring. Place a small amount of adhesive inside the crimp (optional).

Using the crimping pliers, crimp the crimp tube.
STEP 10
String one Swarovski crystal dorado 2X 4mm bicone from the Lakeshore Swarovski collection onto the wire and over the tail. Pass the wire through the first set of silver-plated 6mm jumprings on the north of the first set of 10mm twisted jumprings. Keep covering up the tail with crystals until it is entirely hidden. Repeat to string one crystal then pass the wire through the next set of silver-plated jumprings down the length of the north of the necklace in the following order:
  • Seven crystal dorado
  • Nine smoked topaz
  • Nine topaz satin
  • Eight Indian sapphire AB
  • Eight emerald AB2X
  • Six Capri blue
  • Eight emerald AB2X
  • Eight Indian sapphire AB
  • Nine topaz satin
  • Nine smoked topaz
  • Seven crystal dorado 2X
STEP 11
String the wire through one crimp tube and around the last 10mm twisted jumpring. Pass the beading wire back through the crimp and a few of the crystals and jumprings then pull the wire snug so the crimp is closer to the jumpring. Make sure there is no slack along the length of the first part of the necklace. Place a small amount of gel adhesive inside the crimp (optional). Using the crimping pliers, crimp the crimp tube. Using flush-cutters, trim excess wire from the end.

Earrings

STEP 1
String one silver-plated 3mm round bead, one Swarovski topaz 8mm bicone from the Blaze Swarovski collection and one silver-plated 3mm round bead onto a paddle pin. Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush-cutters, form a simple loop on the straight end of the wire, creating an 8mm bicone beading drop. Repeat to create two topaz 8mm bicone bead drops.

String one Swarovski Capri blue 6mm bicone from the Swarovski Lakeshore collection on one headpin and make a simple loop. Repeat to create two 6mm Capri blue bead drops.
STEP 2
Open a 6mm silver-plated jumpring and pass it through four closed gold-plated twisted jumprings and close. Open a second silver-plated jumpring and place it next to the first one and close. Orient the gold-plated jumprings with two facing east and two facing west. Open a gold-plated twisted jumpring and pass it between the paired twisted jumprings and around, not through, the silver-plated jumprings. Put an 8mm topaz drop created in Step 1 on this jumpring and close. Orient the drop to the south.
STEP 3
Open a silver-plated 6mm jumpring. Pass it through the north side of the first double set of 10mm jumprings. Add two additional closed silver-plated jumprings and close. Open a second silver-plated jumpring. Place it next to the first one and close. Flip the last two jumprings down, so they hang down as far as possible (the bottom of the jumprings are now the tops). Pass two gold-plated 6mm jumprings through the top of the last set of jumprings.

Pass a silver-plated 6mm jumpring through the gold-plated 6mm jumprings. Add two more silver-plated jumprings and close. Open another silver-plated jumpring, place it next to the last one and close. Flip the last two jumprings down, so they hang down as far as possible (the bottom of the jumprings are now the tops). Pass a gold-plated 6mm jumpring through the top of the last set of jumprings. Add two closed silver-plated jumprings and close. Place another gold-plated jumpring next to the previous one and close creating a Byzantine link with two free silver-plated jumprings at the end.
STEP 4
Repeat Step 3 to attach a Byzantine chain of jumprings to the north of the second double set of 10mm twisted jumprings. Pass two gold-plated 6mm jumprings through the f the last four silver-plated 6mm jumprings from Steps 3 and 4 to create a Byzantine loop.
STEP 5
Open a 6mm gold-plated jumpring and attach the top of the Byzantine loop to the loop on an earstud.
STEP 6
Open a 6mm gold-plated jumpring. Pass it through the bottom of the last two gold-plated jumprings and the loop of a blue Capri drop created in Step 1 and close. The drop will hang in the center of the Byzantine loop.
