Kumihimo (which means "gathered thread") is a form of braiding developed by the Japanese. The kumihimo plate is made of sturdy dense foam which holds the threads firmly while you work. The kumihimo plate is ideal for making flat braids and friendship bracelets. The large rectangle opening is ideal for adding beads or working with thicker cords.

Kumihimo braiding uses a variety of cord and thread materials, including rattail cord, bugtail cord, imitation silk, silk and nylon thread, hemp cord, macramé cord and more. The user-friendly Huggy Spool® makes great cord bobbins for kumihimo-style braiding.
