Spectacular tanzanite, ranging in color from ultramarine blue to light violet-blue, is actually a blue variety of the gemstone zoisite. It was given the name tanzanite by the New York Jewelry company, Tiffany & Co., in honor of the only location where the stone has been found: Tanzania.
