featuring Seed Beads
Meet the Designer-Artist
Where do you live?
I live in Clarington, Ohio
Describe your artistic style.
I do not have a particular style yet. I love using different techniques. I try to do something new everyday.
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
My inspiration comes to me from different sources. Sometimes it could be beautiful pictures of nature. Sometimes it could be masterpieces of other bead artists.
What materials do you most enjoy working with?
I love using different materials. I think there are no bad materials, sometimes they just were not used right. I love Japanese seed beads, Czech glass beads, and other materials. I like mixing different materials together.
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
What inspired this design?
I saw pictures on the internet of different animals from South Africa. There was a beautiful peacock which inspired my necklace. The design defined itself once I began creating it.
How did it come together? For example, did you plan it out or did it define itself once you began working?
I planned it out, but during the process it has been changed.
Share Your Background
When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I am a newcomer in beading. Beading is now my favorite hobby. I came to the United States two years ago (I came from Kyrgyzstan, one of the post Soviet Union countries). There were days when I missed my home and I start beading, doing very simple things.
Who introduced you to beading?
Five years ago I saw one necklace on the internet, it was made from seed beads. Since then I dreamed to learn beading, but started beading only here in the USA.
Do you have an artistic background?
I always loved creating something. I started knitting when I was nine years old. But now knitting went to second place.
How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®?
A friend of mine showed me the website. When I received my first package with ideal, high qualified Japanese beads, I was so excited. Now I am your loyal and thankful customer.
What other hobbies do you have?
I do still knit sometimes.
Do you belong to any beading societies or beading groups?
I am a member of a Russian website--biser.info. On this website I found there a lot of friends and learned a lot.
What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
Jewelry-making plays a huge role in my life now; it is my passion today. It helps me meditate, relax, and have fun. I found so many friends through beading. Even though they live in different states, we talk with each other every day. I am proud to say that Tatiana Van Iten is one of them. I met her half a year ago. She has taught me a lot and inspired me. She is one of my best friends.
If you use jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I started doing some small pieces for sale lately. I have a small store on etsy.com. I hope I will do more to make beading my full-time career.
Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
I do not participate in any charity fundraisers yet, but I hope that I'll start soon.
Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Never be afraid of expressing yourself. Do what your heart tells you. And, if something does not go right the first time, keep trying until the result will inspire you to do more.
