Favorite Charity: Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest
|I found this charity while I was doing research on chimpanzees used in entertainment or bio labs.
This is their mission: Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest provides lifetime quality care for formerly abused or exploited chimpanzees, while advocating for great apes through education and collaboration. Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest (CSNW) is currently home to seven chimpanzees released from biomedical research. This group, the Cle Elum Seven, arrived at the sanctuary on June 13, 2008. They have been sharing stories, photos and video of the chimpanzees since their arrival on their blog.
|The sanctuary always needs donations and held their second year anniversary fundraiser on June 13, 2010. This marked the date of the arrival of the Cle Elum Seven to Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest and the birthday celebration for Negra, the "queen of the Cle Elum Seven." Their fundraising goal is $30,000, with an ultimate goal of $45,000, which will replace three more caged windows in the playroom with chimpanzee-proof glass. I designed a pendant I called the Chimpanzee Footprint Pendant, and proceeds from the sales benefit the fundraiser. To date I have raised $880. The pendant and more of my handcrafted jewelry can be seen and purchased at my etsy shop: www.etsy.com/shop/TamelaArtUnderGlass and at my website: www.TamelaArtUnderGlass.com where my artwork can also be viewed.|
