Actually, I started this scholarship fund in August, to honor my nephew. On November 16, 2010, our precious nephew, Joshua, was taken from us at the age of 18, by someone who had lost their way. He was a soulful young man and walked in the ways of the Lord. He will remain in our hearts forever and we look forward to seeing him again in Heaven. As Joshua believed, so we do as well ... Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6) It is common to plant a tree in the name of a loved one we have lost, but in his honor I present to you "Joshua's trees." Each tree is handmade and many of them have 18 branches to represent the 18 years Joshua spent with us on Earth. These branches reach towards Heaven and symbolize the growth of Love and Respect for others. I know that if Joshua were still with us here on Earth he would live in the way of these trees. In addition some of the trees will have a tiny blue bead (Joshua's favorite color) hidden in the center to symbolize Joshua. A leather cord will accompany each tree. Proceeds from the sale of the trees will be placed in a scholarship fund in the name of Joshua Aaron Wilkerson.

The goal of the scholarship is to provide funds to a student who will be enrolling in college in the near future. Joshua had that chance taken from him, and I am sure he would be proud to be part of helping others attain their dream of furthering their education. I hope you will join in spreading the love I feel for Joshua when I make each of his trees.

The "Joshua's Trees" Scholarship is personal and close to home and to our community. I wanted to do something positive with my skills, something that would spread positive feelings and would enhance my creativity. I had no idea what I started when I posted the first two trees. It exploded from there and now when I pick up wire and beads to work on the orders I have I keep coming up with new trees! Ultimately the story behind the trees, and the symbolism involved are what make this unique. Oh it's a grass-roots effort and my intention is to just do this once and for a student or students from Joshua's High School, but I wish you could feel all the positive feelings from everyone who has purchased trees. It is absolutely amazing! I plan to make some earrings to go with some of the trees in the future as well.

I'm making jewelry, something I love and it will benefit someone and serve to honor my nephew.
