Bib-Style Necklace with 14Kt Gold-Filled Chain and Swarovski Crystal Beads

STEP 1
Using flush-cutters, cut the following lengths of gold-filled cable chain:
  • four 3/4 inch
  • two 2-inch
  • nine 4-inch
  • one 8-inch
STEP 2
Place a 4mm Swarovski crystal sand opal AB bicone onto a gold-filled eyepin. Using chain-nose pliers, flush-cutters and round-nose pliers, form a simple loop above the bead to create a beading link. Repeat to create four.
STEP 3
Place one 4mm sand opal AB bicone, one 6mm golden shadow bicone and one 4mm sand opal AB bicone onto an eyepin. Form a simple loop above the last bead to create a 3-bicone link. Repeat to create two.
STEP 4
Using a pair of flat-nose pliers and chain-nose pliers, open one 5mm gold-filled jumpring. Pass the open ring through the last link on one end of one 2-inch length of chain and the loop on one half of the gold-filled filigree box clasp. Close the jumpring.
STEP 5
Using chain-nose pliers, open the loop on one end of a sand opal link then pass it through the last link on the other end of the 2-inch length of chain connected to the clasp. Close the loop on the link.
STEP 6
Open the loop on the other end of the link attached in Step 5 and pass the open loop through the last link on one end of a 3/4 inch length of chain.
STEP 7
Repeat Steps 5 and 6.
STEP 8
Open the loop on one end of one 3-bicone link then pass the open loop through the last link on the end of the last 3/4 inch length of chain connected in Step 7. Close the loop.
STEP 9
Open the loop on the other end of the link then pass the loop through the last link on one end of the 8-inch length of chain.
STEP 10
Repeat Steps 4 - 9 in reverse, connecting the last length of chain to the loop on the second half of the clasp. When finished, you should have completed the basic chain.
STEP 11
Open 18 gold-filled 5mm 20-gauge jumprings.
STEP 12
Working from left to right, pass an open ring through the second link on one end of the 8-inch length of chain and the last link on one end of a 4-inch length of chain. Close the jumpring.
STEP 13

Fold the 8-inch length of chain in half to determine where the center link is. Count over 3 links past the center link (not counting the center link), pass an open ring through the link then also through the last link on the other end of the 4-inch length of chain. Close the jumpring.
STEP 14
Leave 5 links empty then on the 6th link, pass an open ring through. Add the last link on one end of another 4-inch length of chain to the open jumpring, crossing over the first swagged chain, then close the jumpring.

Count up from the first link leaving 5 links empty, and attach the second end of the chain to the 6th link using a 5mm jumpring.
STEP 15
Repeat Step 14 until all 4-inch lengths of chain are attached, making sure to overlap each length when attaching them to the base chain.

Design Tip: If there is more than one link left on the right side of the 8-inch length of chain, remove that end from the 3-bicone link, cut off the unnecessary links leaving one link to the right of the last jumpring, and re-attach the 3-bicone link.
