Multi-Strand Necklace and Earring Set with Plated Brass Chain and Silver-Plated Brass Beads

Necklace

STEP 1
Using flush-cutters, cut the following lengths of finished chain:

Tip: Remove the clasp and loop ends of the finished 36-inch chains before cutting your measured lengths.
  • One 19-1/2 inch length of 1.5mm gunmetal-plated snake chain
  • One 17-inch length and one 18-inch length of 2mm gunmetal-plated snake chain
  • One 18-1/2 inch length of 2.5mm gunmetal-plated snake chain
  • One 15-inch length and one 16-1/2 inch length of 1.5mm silver-plated snake chain
  • One 16-1/2 inch length of 2mm silver-plated snake chain
  • One 18-inch length of 2.5mm silver-plated snake chain
  • One 19-1/2 inch length of 1mm gold-plated snake chain
  • One 18-1/2 inch length of 2mm gold-plated snake chain
  • One 17-1/2 inch length and one 18-1/2 inch length of 2.5mm gold-plated snake chain
STEP 2
Using flush-cutters, cut the clasp off of the following 7-1/2 inch lengths of finished chain:

Tip: Measure and cut your chain from the loop end of the finished chain. This will enable you to incorporate the chain loop into the design.
  • Two 1.5mm gunmetal-plated snake chains
  • Four 1mm silver-plated snake chains
  • Six 2mm gold-plated snake chain
STEP 3
Create a custom chain end by opening the inside curve of a 30x5mm curved tube bead with a pair of flat-nose pliers. Using a pair of nylon jaw pliers, straighten the edges of the two sides of the tube until they are parallel with each other. Center a chain terminator over the top of the chain end using chain-nose pliers to mold it to the sides of the chain end. Use Vigor Super Glue on each side of the chain terminator and hold firmly in place until secure. Repeat to attach one chain terminator to each side of the center chain terminator for a total of three.

Repeat to create a second custom chain end.
STEP 4
Place the end of a 1.5mm silver-plated snake chain into the first custom chain end next to one end. Apply The Ultimate adhesive on the chain and custom chain end to hold in place. Repeat to attach the remaining eleven lengths of chain from Step 1 from shortest to longest.

Fill any excess space between the chains and chain end with The Ultimate adhesive. Let the glue dry.
STEP 5
String one silver-plated 50x3mm curved tube bead on to first 1.5mm silver-plated snake chain. Repeat Step 4 to attach the chain to the second custom chain end. String a silver-plated 50x3mm curved tube bead onto the 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm chains and a silver-plated 30x5mm curved bead onto the 2.5mm chains before gluing them into the second chain end.
STEP 6
Using one pair of chain-nose pliers and flat-nose pliers, open a 5x4mm jumpring. Pass it through the loop on the first chain terminator on the first custom chain end and the finished chain loop end on one 7-1/2 inch length of 2mm gold-plated snake chain and one 7-1/2 inch length of 1mm silver-plated snake chain. Close the jumpring.

Repeat to attach one 7-1/2 inch length of 2mm gold-plated snake chain and one 7-1/2 inch length of 1.5mm gunmetal-plated snake chain to the center chain terminator.

Repeat to attach one 7-1/2 inch length of 2mm gold-plated snake chain and one 7-1/2 inch length of 1mm silver-plated snake chain to the third chain terminator.

Repeat Step 6 to attach six 7-1/2 inch lengths of chain to the second custom chain end.
STEP 7
String one gold-plated cord end onto a headpin. Using a pair of round-nose pliers, chain-nose pliers and flush-cutters finish the straight end of the wire with a wrapped loop.
STEP 8
Match up the ends of the six lengths of chain attached to the first custom chain end. Fill the cord end approximately 1/3 full of The Ultimate adhesive. Gently place the ends of the chain into the cord end and secure in place until the glue sets. Repeat to attach a cord end to the six lengths of chain attached to the second custom chain end.
STEP 9
Open a 4mm jumpring. Pass it through the loop on the springring portion of the clasp and the wrapped loop attached to the first portion of the necklace. Close the jumpring. Place a second 4mm jumpring next to the first.

Repeat to attach two 4mm jumprings to the loop on a toggle ring and the wrapped loop attached to the second portion of the necklace.

Earrings

STEP 1
Using flush-cutters, cut the following 4-inch lengths of chain:
  • Two 2mm gunmetal-plated snake chains
  • Four 2.5mm gunmetal-plated snake chains
  • Four 1.5mm silver-plated snake chains
  • Two 2.5mm silver-plated snake chains
  • Six 1mm gold-plated snake chains
  • Four 2mm gold-plated snake chains
STEP 2
Create a custom-chain end by opening the inside curve of a 30x5mm curved tube all the way across using flat-nose pliers. Using nylon-jaw pliers straighten the edges of the two sides of the tube until they are parallel with each other. Center a chain terminator over the top of the chain end using chain-nose pliers to mold it to the side of the chain end. Then use Vigor Super Glue on each side of the chain terminator and hold firmly in place until secure. Repeat to attach one chain terminator to each side of the center chain terminator for a total of three.

Repeat to create a second custom chain end.
STEP 3
Place the end of a 1mm gold-plated snake chain into the first custom-chain end 1/8 inch from one end. Place The Ultimate adhesive on the chain and the custom-chain end to hold in place. Repeat to attach the eleven lengths of chain in the following order:
  • One 2.5mm gunmetal-plated snake chain
  • One 1.5mm silver-plated snake chain
  • One 2mm gold-plated snake chain
  • One 2.5mm gunmetal-plated snake chain
  • One 1mm gold-plated snake chain
  • One 2.5mm silver-plated snake chain
  • One 1mm gold-plated snake chain
  • One 1.5mm silver-plated snake chain
  • One 2mm gunmetal-plated snake chain
  • One 2mm gold-plated snake chains
Fill any excess space between the chains and chain end with The Ultimate adhesive. Let the glue dry.

Repeat to attach the remaining chains to the second custom-chain end.
STEP 4
Using one pair of chain-nose pliers and flat-nose pliers, open a 5mm jumpring. Pass it through the loop on the center chain terminator on the first custom-chain end and the loop on one earwire. Close the jumpring.

Repeat Steps 1 - 4 to create the second earring.
