Single-Strand Necklace and Earring Set with Czech Glass Beads, Seed Beads and Soutache Cord

Necklace

STEP 1
Using flush-cutting pliers cut one 3-1/2 inch length of silver-plated 4mm rolo chain.

Using scissors cut:
  • One 22-inch length of scarlet red soutache cord
  • One 22-inch length of tan soutache cord
  • One 22-inch length of white soutache cord
STEP 2
Place a generous layer of adhesive to the both ends of each of the three lengths of soutache cord. Make sure to use proper ventilation when using this product. After drying, trim most of the tip of each end of cord leaving a thin edge of adhesive on each end.
STEP 3
Thread a beading needle onto a 6-foot length of red Nymo thread.
STEP 4
String twelve red matte seed beads onto the thread. Pass the needle through all of the beads one more time to create the first circle. Tie the end of the thread onto the circled thread using two overhand knots. Place a small amount of adhesive (Loctite®) onto the knot for added security (optional). Continue to weave a tubular peyote stitch for 1-1/4 inch. Weave a red seed bead, skipping every other bead on the previous row to close down the top of the tube. Pass the thread back through the last row, tighten the thread and tie off the thread to secure it to the end of the tube.

Repeat to create two red tubular peyote stitched bead caps.
STEP 5
Thread a needle onto a 40-inch length of tan Nymo thread, double the thread and tie a knot onto the matched ends.
STEP 6
Match the ends of one tan, red and white soutache cord. Stitch through the end of the cords through the grooved center of the cords to conceal the thread. Stitch the cords together for the first 1-inch of cord.
STEP 7
Stitch one 6x4mm pellet cobalt bead onto the thread. Wrap the cords around the edge of the bead. Pass the thread through the cords on the opposite side of the bead; continue to stitch the cords together until the cord is above the bead. Reverse the cords at the top of the cobalt bead and attach a 6x4mm pellet red bead to the inside of the tan soutache cord.

Continue to reverse the cords and attach a bead in between each loop of cords:
  • One 6x4mm pellet alabaster bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet cobalt bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet red bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet alabaster bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet cobalt bead
  • One 8mm round red bead
  • One 8mm round cobalt bead
  • One 8mm round white bead
  • One 8mm round cobalt bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet red bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet alabaster bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet cobalt bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet red bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet alabaster bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet cobalt bead
STEP 8
Continue to stitch the cords together for the last 1-inch of cord.
STEP 9
Thread a needle onto a doubled 60-inch length of red Nymo thread, double the thread over again and tie a knot onto the matched ends. Attach the end of the 4-strand lengths of thread through the end of the soutache cord. Pass the cords up through first red tubular peyote stitched bead cap, form a 1/4-inch loop and pass the thread back through the top bead cap. Repeat to create to loops on the end of the peyote bead cap. Knot the thread to secure it to the bead cap and cut the excess thread.

Repeat to attach the opposite ends of the cord to the second beaded bead cap.
STEP 10
String one 6x4mm pellet red bead and one 6mm round white bead onto a ball pin. Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush cutters, form a wrapped loop on the straight end of a headpin.
STEP 11
Using one pair of chain-nose pliers and one pair of flat-nose pliers, open one 4mm jumpring. Pass it though the first link on one 3.5-inch length of chain and loop on the wrapped bead drop. Close the jumpring.

Repeat to attach a 4mm jumpring to the last link on the chain.

Repeat to attach a 4mm jumpring to the loop on a lobster claw clasp.
STEP 12
Using wire nippers, cut an 8-inch length of Accu-Flex® Professional Quality Beading Wire. String onto the wire, one crimp tube and a 1/2-inch piece of French wire. Pass the wire through the jumpring attached to the last link of chain and back through the crimp tube leaving one end of the wire approximately one inch long. Pull the crimp tight against the French wire and the jumpring so the French wire is formed in a nicely curved tube. Place a small amount of adhesive (Loctite) inside the crimp (optional).

Using the crimping pliers, crimp the crimp tube. Using wire nippers, trim the excess wire from the short end.

Place a crimp cover over the crimp tube then gently close it.
STEP 13
String onto the beading wire the following:
  • Thirteen sets of:
    • One 6mm round opaque white bead
    • One red seed bead
  • One 6mm round opaque white bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet red bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet alabaster bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet cobalt bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet red bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet alabaster bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet cobalt bead
  • One 6x4mm pellet red bead
  • One 8mm round opaque white bead
STEP 14
Place one crimp tube, 1/2-inch of French wire and red thread loop on the first beaded bead cap on the focal piece. Pass the beading wire back through crimp, then pull the wire snugly so the crimp and the French wire are closer to the jumpring. Make sure there is no slack along the length of the first part of the necklace. Place a small amount of gel adhesive (Loctite) inside the crimp (optional).

Using the crimping pliers, crimp the crimp tube. Using wire nippers, trim excess wire from the end.

Place a crimp cover over the crimp tube then gently close it.
STEP 15
Repeat step 12 through 14 to attach the lobster claw clasp to the opposite side of the focal piece.

Earrings

STEP 1
String one 6x4mm pellet red bead, one 6x4mm pellet white bead, and one 6x4mm pellet cobalt bead onto an eyepin. Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush cutters, form a simple loop on the straight end of the eyepin. Repeat to create two beading links.

Repeat to create two 8mm round white bead drops using one 8mm round white glass bead and one headpin.
STEP 2
Using one pair of chain-nose pliers and one pair of flat-nose pliers, open the loop on the top of one beading link. Pass it though the loop on an earwire. Close the loop.

Open the opposite loop on the beading link. Pass it through the loop on one 8mm round white bead drop. Close the loop.

Repeat to create the second earring.
