Meet the Designer-Artist
Where do you live?
At Point Chevalier, in Auckland City, New Zealand
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
I like unusual objects and shapes, and get inspiration from other beaders.
What medium do you work with mostly?
Seed beads, wire, needle and thread.
Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?
I love needle craft and as soon as I saw what you could do with beads I decided this medium was for me. Now there are not enough hours in the day.
As a retired person, I wish I had been introduced to beading earlier in my life. Learn beading while you are young. It is an inspirational release and you meet many new friends around the world. Beading plays an important part in my life. I get my housework done quickly each day so that I can bead. I have coached numerous beading classes at the local bead shop and have designed many items for sale. I even sold a design to our local member of parliament. My daughter, Suzanne, is also a beadaholic. We are developing our website, www.evencreations.com, to sell and promote our designs.
Where and How do you sell your jewelry?
I've sold my designs via word of mouth and at a few art galleries.
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
What inspired this design?
I am a keen gardener and used to belong to a floral display club. This is where I got the inspiration for my design. I love pink and green colours together and when the design was completed, I felt it looked so peaceful which I imagine paradise to be.
How did it come together?
I planned each segment and feel it came together well after many weeks of beading.
