Meet the Designer-Artist
Where do you live?
Describe your artistic style.
My style is bold! I like to mix colors that most people would not think of mixing together.
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
Nature. Sometimes the colors of beads give me inspiration, beaches, flowers, leaves, etc.
What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Natural gemstones, gold and silver wire.
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Splendor Under the Sea
What inspired this design?
The sea. I love to use blues, greens and mixed metals. The sea princess face has a fish tail on it and the metal represents the sea weed.
How did it come together?
I planned out the colors, then I laid all the components together on the table to see which way they looked the best.
Share Your Background
When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I began making jewelry in the late 1980's. It all started when my aunt gave me some of her old, broken jewelry.
Who introduced you to beading?
After receiving the broken pieces, I just started to experiment by making pieces. People liked it and the rest is history.
Do you have an artistic background?
Other people in my family are artistic. My sister is a graphic artist and my uncle made jewelry. I guess it was in the blood.
How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®?
In a magazine. In fact, I remember when we had to read the prices backward.
What other hobbies do you have?
I like to play tennis, go to street fairs and bead shows.
What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
It is my full-time job. I sell my jewelry and I also teach jewelry design.
If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
Craft fairs, teaching jewelry design and entering contests.
Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
This is something I am really considering in the future.
Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
I want people to know it is a very difficult profession with lots of competition. You must be patient, take risks, but it can be very rewarding.

What inspired you to donate your bead(s) to Circle of Hope?
I feel that everyone should have a fighting chance to be healthy and stay that way.
