Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
I live in Indianapolis, Indiana and I was born in Guatemala.

Describe your artistic style.
Depends on what I'm making, modern, simple, at the same time elegant!

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
Everything, colors, shapes of beads, the beautiful colors of flowers, people, clothes, etc.

I love the idea of making something special for somebody. There is a little of me in every piece of jewelry I make. I love to see my family and friends wear my designs and look so pretty in them! If they are happy, then I'm happy too.

What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Swarovski crystals, seed beads, gemstones, glass and pearls.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Sunflower

What inspired this design?
I love all kinds of flowers and I think all women are like flowers, so I made a sunflower necklace with earrings and a beautiful flower ring! And I know sunflowers are different color but I wanted to do something unique, different and simple but at the same time elegant.

How did it come together?
Well, the only thing I had in mind was to do something with flowers, and I just followed my inspiration and intuition!

Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I started making jewelry in 2008, when I bought some handmade necklaces, I fell in love with the designs, and I told myself, "I can make this." And I practiced until I learned!

How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®?
On the internet while I was searching for jewelry supplies.

What other hobbies do you have?
I love everything that has to do with beauty, makeup, nail designs etc. And I also love to dance and pictures. (I love to model for the camera.)

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
Jewelry-making plays a very important role in my life, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life! Beading became my passion. For now I can only do part-time, but I would really like it to be my full time career.

If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
Started as a hobby, but has now become a very good business.

I have a website, a Facebook page: JS. Jewelry Designs! and I sell jewelry to my family and friends etc. I did enter to a contest for the first time: Fire Mountain Gems and Beads 2012 Swarovski Elements Jewelry-Making Contest!

Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Follow your dreams, believe in yourself and never give up. Don't forget: "Practice makes perfect"
