I bought some elastic cord to make some easy bracelets but have found difficulty joining it. Tying a surgeon's knot seems to slip. Is there a special way?

I have some rhinestone bracelets that have elastic running through the insides. The elastic has stretched and I have been unable to take the bracelets apart to somehow restring the elastic inside. How can I either undo the rhinestones (I can't bend them apart or pull them apart either, the metal tab attaching each one wiggles, but won't separate) or what do I use to string new elastic inside? Are these bracelets fixable? Thank you.

Well, I just started practicing with tubular peyote, I didn't have thread, only elastic cord. I ended up making a bracelet I really like, and I was wondering how long my piece might last? I strengthened the stitching greatly, but I've never seen any videos or tutorials or anything on this site saying to use elastic.I have thread coming now, (thanks =D) but I kind of like the tightness the elastic offers, is it a bad idea to use this instead of thread?

I'm making bracelets with heavy beads (lampwork). I want to use a clear elastic so I can tie off in knots and add a little glue. Some stretch out and eventually the bracelet is 1/2 to 1" longer. What do you suggest?

I've been making stretchy watches and using 1mm elastic string by Craft Designer. It loses its elasticity and even breaks after a fairly short period of time. Not good for return clients. There is a much stronger elastic available, somewhere--I know this because someone I know used it on a watch they gave to me. It has lasted over two years and is still together. Can you tell me what is best for this and your favorite glue to use for the knots? Thank you so very much!

Q.

How do you tie off an elastic cord, as in a bracelet?

A.
Ask The Experts
If the stretch elastic breaks on your bracelet or necklace, use single or doubled strand bobbin elastic (used in sewing and "honey-combing" clothes) to replace and rejuvenate your bracelet or necklace. Finish the knot with a dab of glue.
