Celebrating real women in fashion is important at Fire Mountain Gems and Beads--it's been a company signature since the business first began. Our in-house jewelry designers and style team work diligently to bring you design information that translates the runway into reality through wearable jewelry designs shown on real people--our fabulous employees.

Creative manager, Angela says, ''As long as I can remember, we've done two types of employee photos--the department photos and the individual model shots. The photographer who worked here when I started used to walk around the building with me looking for employees to photograph. Sometimes we would put a finished piece of jewelry on them, other times we'd just take a lifestyle shot showing them in their work environment. Chris Freedman had the idea to take the model shots to a whole new, fashion-focused level and that's how we got to where we are today.''

New, state-of-the-art camera equipment was the first step toward the model-shot makeover. Next was locating professional hair and makeup stylists and nail technicians. Then Angela and her team of photo stylists and jewelry designers worked closely with the Color Association and leading international trend services to determine the styles and colors that would be leading the upcoming season. Being pampered and getting to wear (and keep) the clothes from the shoot was just one of the perks of being a Fire Mountain Gems and Beads model. Every model also received a CD of their stunning photographs--not to mention the opportunity to appear on the pages of one of the most well-read catalogs in the industry.

''I was all for signing up,'' said Katie from Customer Service. ''I loved the clothes and being treated like a queen for the day. I like having my picture taken anytime so it was a lot of fun for me to be in the studio.''

What do the employees love most about the model-shot experience? The camaraderie that occurs both behind the scenes with the employees and through the relationships it establishes with customers. Customer Service representative, Melissa, says, ''Customers call in all the time who recognize me from the catalog. They get such a kick out of seeing who they're talking to when they place their order.''

For model-shot coordinator, Jamie Callahan, it's also about helping people to find the clothing, hairstyle and makeup that best suits them. Former talent scout and model herself, Jamie brings valuable experience to Fire Mountain Gems and Beads. ''At IMTA (International Model and Talent Agency) we taught models how to walk the runway and pose for pictures so when they were in front of the camera they were at their very best.''

The employee models at Fire Mountain Gems and Beads attend modeling classes to prepare them for their day in the studio. ''Aside from being pampered and getting a new outfit, the models come away with a new realization of how photogenic they really are,'' Jamie says. ''We photograph each of the models 'mugshot-style' before the shoot to determine which piece of jewelry will look best on them.''

Alyssa says, ''I like how my shots turned out. I had the opportunity to be flamboyant and my pictures really reflected my true, playful self.'' Katie was pleased with her pictures as well, ''I loved the two that were chosen to be in the catalog.'' Melissa was happy with her picture--and so was her husband, ''WOW!'' was all he could say.''

We receive letters and emails from customers all over the world saying how much they enjoy the model shots in our catalogs. They love being able to put a face with their order. The employee model shots are one of the ways we stay connected with our customers. I think the models have a good time, too, and don't they just look terrific?! --Chris Freedman, Fire Mountain Gems and Beads
