It is named for its discoverer Henry How (a Nova Scotia geologist), and is one of those minerals that is more famous for imitating another mineral. This howlite is dyed a rich lapis lazuli color--it's an inexpensive alternative. Found in California, USA.
Testing for colorfastness is recommended.
