Topics: Eyepins, Headpins

Q.
What's the difference between an eye pin and a head pin? When would I use one or the other?
- Chris
A.
Head pins are straight pieces of wire with a tiny disk or other piece of metal at one end. The metal stops beads from falling off the end of the wire when you string them on. You can finish the straight end of the head pin with a simple or wrapped loop. Head pins work well to make neatly finished drops.

Eye pins are straight pieces of wire with a simple loop at one end. The loop stops strung beads from falling off the end of the wire, like with a head pin, but the eye pin's "eye" opens so you can add other findings to it. For example, you can connect eye pin links to make a chain like a rosary, or add a beaded head pin drop to make an articulated earring.
