Favorite Charity: Breast Cancer Society

My daughter let me know before my last diagnosis of cancer that she was doing a 5K walk on Oct. 18, 2009, in my honor at the Richmond Breast Cancer Walk for a Cure. (I am a four-time cancer survivor including two mastectomies 25 years apart.)

Having had two mastectomies, this a cause about which I am passionate. My daughter wished to raise funds to donate to the Breast Cancer Society, so I suggested that I make breast cancer awareness bracelets to sell, with all the proceeds going to this charity. As a retired art and English teacher, I have the time to make and sell my jewelry, and this seemed like a great way to give back to the search for a cure.

Two weeks after my last breast cancer surgery, I made 25 unique bracelets that helped my recovery by giving me purpose. I want everyone who is diagnosed with cancer to know that there is hope; a life after cancer, and that everyone needs to support the fight. Please know that most of the beads, findings, and charms, which I have used to make the bracelets, I have ordered from Fire Mountain. Thanks for letting me tell my story.
