Favorite Charity: Australian Red Cross for the Victorian Black Saturday Fire Appeal and The Smith Family
I learned of the Australian Red Cross for the Victorian Black Saturday Fire Appeal via a beading supplier who sent out a call to its buyers to make memory wire bracelets for the women who had lost everything in the fire. So far, over 650 bracelets have been distributed through post offices in the affected areas. There are also quilts being made from schools, craft clubs, etc.
This charity is not connected to my jewelry-making, it was just a wonderful way to donate something, as well as monetarily. An overseas supplier also picked up the story and, as well as donating her time, she donated a percentage of her sales to the Appeal. What a wonderful contribution at this devastating time.
Normally my favorite charity is The Smith Family, but under the tragic circumstances of this fire, where over 200 people lost their lives, and others lost everything they possessed, it was an appropriate time to give in some small way.
