Favorite Charity: United Cerebral Palsy of Pittsburgh
UCP of Pittsburgh is my favorite charity because I have cerebral palsy. I was diagnosed with it at a very young age. So both my family and I know a lot about this charity because they were very helpful with resources as I was growing up. Now that I am an adult, I feel that it is my turn to give back to an organization that has given so much to me. I have a special spot in my heart for people with disabilities and I just felt that it was time that I contributed something back.
This charity is connected to my jewelry-making because I recently contacted the organization and asked if they were interested in selling awareness bracelets that I make as a type of fundraiser. So after doing some brainstorming with the director of development, I now have a bracelet created especially for them to sell. I also sell the same bracelets on my own website and at craft shows and donate a portion of the sales back to UCP. There are other charities that I make bracelets for and donate money to, but this charity is the closest to my heart. The photo at the top left of this page is the original bracelet design that they sell.
