Favorite Charity: Gilda's Club
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2009. Gilda's Club is an incredible organization providing resources for cancer victims and survivors and their friends and families.
Gilda's Club provides support groups, activities, a place to just go and be yourself any time during your treatment. It is a loving, open, giving atmosphere where the cancer patient is the center of the mission. The activities vary from meditation to arts and crafts to support groups to book clubs. There is something for every need you might have during and after treatment, for you and your family.
I began creating jewelry for breast cancer patients, at first using a kit I found on a website, and then altering it with better beads I purchased online at sites such as Fire Mountain Gems. I make pins, earrings, bracelets, etc. I have already given out several dozen--to my breast cancer surgeon's staff, to the Baptist Hospital Breast Care Center, and to other survivors I meet at Gilda's Club. It is my way of giving back and saying thank you for all they have given me.
