Favorite Charity: Beading for A Cure
Beading for a Cure was started up by members of the old AOL bead boards in memory of a wonderful beader who passed away from colon cancer. I missed out on the first year, but joined up for the second and every year after.
It's my favorite charity because, first, it's a great cause. Second it is an interesting challenge.
The charity consists of an interesting challenge. Each participant purchases the same kit of beads. You must create something using at least one of each bead in the kit. You may only add one other bead to the project, but you can add anything else. Then all the projects get auctioned off on eBay in March. The finished projects have been amazing, everything from lunch boxes, hats, pillows, wind chimes, ornaments, sculptures and of course all sorts of jewelry. There's a photo gallery on the website that shows pictures of every project from the past 10 years.
