Favorite Charity: Blair's Tree of Hope
BTOH was started after our youngest daughter passed away after a cancer journey - she was 16 years old. Spending many hours at the hospital, the one item that helped us to keep busy and was also very therapeutic was doing crafts - we loved making bracelets. We actually designed a bracelet and sold them to help defer our expenses during her journey. Her journey was over $3,000,000 and our family incurred over $200,000 out of pocket. So all funds from the bracelet sales were helpful to our financial income.
This is my favorite charity not only due to the personal nature but because Blair's Tree of Hope is making a difference for many families who have children going through a terminal illness. BTOH has no paid employees, everyone is a volunteer and we depend on donations to help us to achieve our mission and goals. All donations welcome!
One of the events that we host every month at the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital is a crafting event. The girls love making bracelets and some of the boys. Jewelry making is very therapeutic and it also gives the families time away from their rooms to relax and be a part of the "real world," feel normal for a few hours every 1 day a month. A few years back we received a donation of product from Fire Mountain Gems and Beads® and that donation was so very helpful!
