Double-Strand Necklace and Earring Set with Sodalite Gemstone Beads and Swarovski Crystal Beads

The two-strand faceted sodalite gemstone necklace is created using the size difference of the beads for a dramatic and elegant effect.

For this necklace you will need two different lengths of thread to create two strands. For the inner-most (shorter) strand, you will need a length of thread totaling 32-inch, which will give you a strand 16-inch long. Add 6-inch to the length of thread for tying off the end of the strand.

STEP 1

Thread your needle with Gudebrod silk thread for the first strand and knot the end of the thread, cutting off any excess thread up to the knot. Take a bead tip and place a small amount of Hypo Tube cement inside it and place the knot into the cement/glue. (It helps to have a pair of tweezers to hold the bead tip.) Using your chain-nose pliers, close the bead tip making sure to wipe off any excess glue.

For shorter strand, lead in with:
  • 4mm faceted round
  • sodalite 4mm silver-plated round
  • 6mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm crystal diamond
  • 4mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm silver-plated round
  • 6mm faceted round sodalite
  • 6mm silver-plated rhinestone rondelle
Then repeat the following 4 times:
  • 6mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm crystal diamond
  • 4mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm silver-plated round
  • 6mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm crystal diamond
  • 4mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm silver-plated round
  • 6mm faceted round sodalite
  • 6mm silver-plated rhinestone rondelle
Reverse pattern and repeat 4 times this pattern:
  • 6mm silver-plated rhinestone rondelle
  • 6mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm silver-plated round
  • 4mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm crystal diamond
  • 6mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm silver-plated round
  • 4mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm crystal diamond
  • 6mm faceted round sodalite
Then finish with:
  • 6mm silver-plated rhinestone rondelle
  • 6mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm silver-plated round
  • 4mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm crystal diamond
  • 6mm faceted round sodalite
  • 4mm silver-plated round
  • 4mm faceted round sodalite

A rhinestone rondelle will be the center point of this strand. This creates the pattern in reverse, making both sides of the necklace match. When finished stringing, knot the end of the thread. Get the knot as close to the last bead as possible though making sure that the necklace doesn't kink. (A jeweler's awl is extremely helpful in placing the knot where you want it.) Then follow the same steps as before to attach a bead tip to the knot in the thread.
STEP 2
For the second (longer) strand, you will need a total of 36-inch, which will give you an 18-inch strand. Again, add 6-inch to the length of thread for tying off the end of the strand. Prepare the thread as you did for the first strand (STEP #1).

For longer strand, follow this pattern:
  • Silver-plated, side closing bead tip
  • 6mm crystal round
Repeat the following 3 times:
  • 8mm faceted round sodalite
  • 5mm silver-plated round
  • 10mm faceted round sodalite
  • 6mm round crystal
  • 8mm faceted round sodalite
  • 5mm silver-plated round
  • 10mm faceted round sodalite
  • 8mm flat crystal rondelle
  • 10mm faceted round sodalite
  • 5mm silver-plated round
  • 8mm faceted round sodalite
  • 6mm silver-plated rhinestone rondelle
Reverse Pattern, repeat 3 times:

  • 5mm silver-plated round
  • 10mm faceted round sodalite
  • 8mm flat crystal rondelle
  • 10mm faceted round sodalite

  • 8mm faceted round sodalite
  • 6mm crystal round

  • 5mm silver-plated round

A rhinestone rondelle will be the center point of this strand. Attach the two bead tips to a splitring on each side. Attach each splitring to each half of your clasp. Enjoy your new necklace!
