Single-Strand Necklace and Earring Set with Swarovski Crystal Beads and Sterling Silver Chain

STEP 1
Using the side-cutting pliers, cut the 6x4mm oval links, connecting the links in the 21.5mm and 15mm flat hammered round chain, to create the following smaller lengths: one 3-3/4 inches long (three 15mm links and two 21.5mm links) and one 9-1/2 inches long (six 15mm links and six 21.5mm links).
STEP 2
Using the side-cutting pliers, cut the 6x4mm oval links, connecting the larger links in the 23mm textured round and 15mm smooth round link chain, to create the following smaller lengths: one 4-1/8 inches long (two 15mm links and three 23mm links), two 2-1/8 inches (two 15mm links and one 23mm links), one 8-7/8 inches (five 15mm links and six 23mm links) and one 3 inches (two 15mm links and two 23mm links).
STEP 3
Place one 4mm faceted round tanzanite onto a headpin then finish the end with a simple loop. Repeat to make a total of seven round tanzanite bead drops. Repeat to make five 6mm tanzanite bicone bead drops.
STEP 4
Using two pairs of chain-nose pliers, open a jumpring and pass the open ring through one loop on one half of the clasp. Close the loop. Add another jumpring to the first jumpring. Open another jumpring and pass it through the last loop in a 3-3/4 inch length of 21.5mm and 15mm hammered link chain and the last jumpring added to the clasp. Close the jumpring.
STEP 5
Cut a 10-inch length of thread. Thread on a beading needle then double the thread. String onto the thread, seven 6mm tanzanite bicone beads, the last 15mm hammered link from Step 4 and the first link in a 3-inch length of 23mm textured and 15mm smooth link chain. Pass the needle back through the first three tanzanite bicone beads, creating a small circle. Tie a half-hitch knot between the two beads and pull tight. Pass the needle through the next bead and tie another half-hitch knot. Pass the needle through the next bead then trim the thread. Place a small amount of adhesive on the knot for added security.

Connecting with a Triple Layer Bead Ring

STEP 6
Cut a 12-inch length of thread. Thread on the needle and then double the thread. String onto the thread one 4mm tanzanite bicone bead and one hole on the end of a 3-hole spacer bar.

Repeat to add a total of five 4mm tanzanite bicone beads separated by five 3-hole spacer bars. Pass the needle through the last link in the 3-inch length of chain from Step 5 and the first link in a 2-1/8 inch length of 23mm textured and 15mm smooth ring chain. String the thread back through the beads and spacer bars creating a small circle. Tie a half-hitch knot between a bicone bead and a spacer bar then pull tight. Pass the thread through the spacer bar and make another half-hitch knot. Trim the thread. Place a small amount of adhesive on the knots for added security.
STEP 7
Cut a 24-inch length of thread. Thread on the needle then double the thread. String on two 4mm tanzanite bicone beads, the center hole of one spacer bar (from Step 6), two 4mm tanzanite bicone beads and the center hole of the next spacer bar.

Repeat all the way around the ring until there is a second layer of bicone beads, with two beads between each spacer bar and the thread is through the links of chain added in Step 6. Finish the second row as you did in Step 6.
STEP 8
Cut a 30-inch length of thread. Thread on the needle then double the thread. String on three 4mm tanzanite bicone beads, the outside hole on the end of one spacer bar (from Step 6), three 4mm tanzanite bicone beads, the outside hole of the next spacer bar.

Repeat all the way around the ring until there is a third layer of bicone beads with three beads between each spacer bar and the thread is through the links of chain added in Step 6. Finish as you did in Step 6.

Connecting Links with a Square-Stitch Ring

STEP 9
Cut a 36-inch length of thread. Add your needle to one end, do not double the thread.

String on two 4mm tanzanite round crystals, this will be the first row.

Square stitch second row: Pick up one 4mm tanzanite round crystal then pass the needle through the second crystal in the first row. Pass the thread back through the new bead, making a circle of thread and forcing the new bead to sit alongside the second bead in the first row.

Pick up one 4mm tanzanite round crystal. Pass the needle through the first crystal in the first row then back through the new crystal, making a circle of thread and securing the new crystal alongside the first crystal in the first row. This completes the second row.

Pass the needle down through the first row then up through the new row. This secures the two rows together.

Continue adding rows of two 4mm tanzanite crystals in this manner until the woven strip is 10 rows long.

Pass the woven strip through the last link in the other end of the 2-1/8 inch chain from Step 6 and the first 15mm link of the 9-1/2 inch length of flat hammered chain. Pass the needle through the first row of the woven strip then back through the last to join the elements together. Continue passing the thread through the two end rows of crystals until the ring is secure.

Adding 3-bead edging:

With the needle exiting the end of the strip through one crystal, pick up three rocaille size 15 seed beads. Pass the needle through the next crystal on the end and through the second crystal in that same row so the needle is coming out on the other side of the strip and the rocailles are bridged between two crystals on the other side.

Pick up three rocailles and pass the needle through the crystals to the other side.

Continue adding rocailles in this manner until there are three seed beads bridging between the crystals along each end of the woven strip. To secure, pass the needle through the crystals and rocaille beads again.
STEP 10
Connect the last ring in the chain from Step 9 to one 15mm ring of the remaining 2-1/8 inch smooth chain using a triple layer bead ring.
STEP 11
Connect the other 15mm ring from the 2-1/8 inch length of chain from Step 10 and one 23mm ring on the end of the remaining 4-1/8 inch length of smooth chain using a square-stitch bead ring.
STEP 12
Open a jumpring and pass the open ring through the last 23mm link on the 4-1/8 inch length of chain in Step 11 and through the loop on the other half of the clasp. Close the jumpring.
STEP 13
Open a jumpring and pass the open ring through the last link on one end of the 8-7/8 inch length of smooth chain and through the second (from one end) 6x4mm smooth sterling silver link on the 9-1/2 inch flat hammered chain. Attach the other end of the chain to the second (from the other end) 6x4mm smooth sterling silver link of the 9-1/2 inch flat hammered chain.
STEP 14
Using chain-nose pliers, open the loop above a 4mm faceted round drop and pass it through the second 21.5mm link in the 8-7/8 inch length of chain in Step 13. Close the loop.

Repeat, attaching a 4mm faceted round drop to the third and fourth 21.5mm links and the second and third 15mm smooth round links in the same length of chain.

Repeat, attaching a 4mm faceted round drop to the third, fourth and fifth 23mm hammered links in the 9-1/2 inch length of hammered chain added in Step 9. Repeat, attaching a 6mm faceted bicone drop to the first 21.5mm ring and the second, third, and fourth 15mm flat hammered links added in Step 9.
