Earrings with Brecciated Jasper Gemstone Beads and Vermeil Beads and Bead Caps

Make a pair of rich brecciated jasper and vermeil bead earrings inspired by the timelessly romantic tale of an ancient beauty known as Helen of Troy.

String one of each onto one vermeil headpin:
  • Vermeil bead cap
  • 8mm brecciated jasper bead
  • Vermeil rondelle
  • 8mm brecciated jasper bead
  • Vermeil bead cap
Using the chain-nose pliers, grip the wire, as close as possible, to the vermeil bead cap and bend the wire to form a 90 degree (right) angle.
Using the side-cutting pliers, cut the headpin to approximately 1/4 inch past the bend.
Grasp the clipped end of the wire with the tip of the round-nose pliers. While pressing the thumbnail of your non-dominant hand into the 90 degree angle of the wire, rotate the pliers away from your body so that the wire is wound around the barrel, forming a complete circle, centered over the beads. If necessary, adjust the loop so it is centered.
Using the flat-nose pliers, grasp the open side of the loop on the earwire and gently twist it open (similar to opening a jumpring). Pass the open loop through the loop formed above the beads. Close the loop.
Repeat Steps 1 - 5 to complete the second earring.
