Headband, Bracelet and Earring Set with Fimo® Professional Polymer Clay, Czech Glass Beads and Bone Beads

Headband

Headband Base

STEP 1
Cut two 14-inch lengths of 10-gauge aluminum wire.

Place the wire lengths parallel to each other approximately 4mm apart. Temporarily tape the wires into place at the ends and in the center.
STEP 2
Working from the spool, tightly wrap 22-gauge wire around the ends of the headband wires. Use the two-wire weaving technique to weave along the entire length of the headband.

Note: For additional details view our ''Basic Wire-Weaving Techniques'' how-to video.

Polymer Clay Roses

STEP 3
Cut a 5-inch length of 26-gauge wire. Bend the wire at the center to create a U-shape.

Condition and mix colors of polymer clay.
STEP 4
Create nine clay balls approximately the same size. Using the same color clay, create an oval that is twice the size of the balls.
STEP 5
Form the clay oval over the bend of the wire, creating a base for the petals.

Gently press a clay ball flat then manipulate into a petal shape. Press the petal onto the clay base. Repeat with each ball of clay, creating more petals if needed.

Brush petals with mica powder as desired.
STEP 6
Repeat Steps 3 - 5 to create the desired number of roses for the headband then bake according to clay instructions.

Polymer Clay Leaves

STEP 7
Condition and mix clay to create the leaf green color desired. Roll the clay to approximately 2mm thick.
STEP 8
Using various sizes of rose leaf-shaped embossing cutters, cut leaves from the sheet of green clay. Gently shape each leaf to have organic-like curves then use a toothpick to create a hole at the base.

Bake according to clay instructions.
STEP 9
Apply black and gold Gilders Paste® to random areas on the front of each leaf.

Polymer Clay Sugar Skull Charm

STEP 10
Condition two colors of clay, one for the skull base and one for the contrasting detail.

Roll the base clay to approximately 2mm thick.
STEP 11
Use the Sutton slice technique to create a decorated sheet of clay.

Note: For additional details view ''The Sutton Slice for Polymer Clay'' how-to video
STEP 12
Use a craft knife to cut a simple skull outline from the sheet of detailed clay and then a small triangle as a nose. Use a toothpick or small straw to create a hole at the top of the charm. Cut two round eyes.

Bake according to clay instructions.

Note: The tool used to cut eyes depends on the size best for the charm. Some options are 9mm round Kemper® cutters, straws and craft knives.

Skull Bead Accents

STEP 13
String the following onto a head pin:
  • One large skull bead
  • One 4mm druk bead
  • Three 6mm druk beads
  • Three 8mm druk beads
Bend the head pin at a 90-degree angle close to the beads.

Repeat, using various combinations of druk beads, to create a total of three large and two small skull accents.

Assembly

STEP 14
Twist the wires of a polymer clay rose together then tightly wrap the twisted wire around a base wire of the headband. Repeat to add all the polymer clay roses along the headband.
STEP 15
Tightly wrap the bent headpin of a skull accent around a base wire between roses. Trim any excess wire. Repeat to add all the skull accents near the center of the headband.
STEP 16
Without cutting wire from the spool, string the polymer clay leaves onto 22-gauge wire.

Working from the spool, tightly wrap 22-gauge wire around the ends of the headband wires. Continue to wrap down the length of the headband, moving between the roses and skull accents and adding leaves where desired.

Tightly wrap the wire at the opposite end of the headband to secure then cut.
STEP 17
Cut a piece of faux suede that is approximately 1-inch longer and 1/4 inch wider than the headband. It may be necessary to use more than one piece material.

Cut an arm's length of nylon thread and add a sharp needle. Tie a small knot at the end of the thread.
STEP 18
Center the suede under the headband with your non-dominant hand.

At one end, fold the excess material over the end of the wire then sew the material together. Continue to sew the edge of the material to the wire base along the entire length of the headband. Repeat at the opposite end and down the opposite side of the headband.

Secure the thread with a knot then trim.
STEP 19
Cut a 1-1/2 inch length of double cable chain. Use a 6mm jump ring to attach one end of the chain length around one of the skull accents. Use a 6mm jump ring to attach the sugar skull charm to the opposite end of the chain.

Bracelet

STEP 1
Condition clay in the desired flower color then create 10 balls approximately the same size.
STEP 2
Gently flatten a ball of clay then shape into a petal. Repeat to create nine petals.

Press the base of the petals onto the remaining ball of clay to create a rose.

Use a toothpick to create a side-to-side hole in the base of the rose.
STEP 3
Bake the rose according to the clay instructions.
STEP 4
String the following onto a head pin then create a simple loop:
  • One 6mm druk
  • One large skull bead
  • One 4mm druk
STEP 5
Cut a five-loop length of bracelet memory wire and add a simple loop to one end.
STEP 6
String 4mm druks onto the first loop of the memory wire. String the clay rose onto the wire. String the rest of the memory wire with 4mm druks and create a simple loop at the end.
STEP 7
Using a 4mm jump ring, attach the skull drop to one end of the bracelet.

Earrings

Repeat to create a second rose.
STEP 3
Bake the rose according to the clay instructions.
STEP 4
String the following onto a head pin then create a simple loop:
  • One 6mm druk
  • One large skull bead
  • One 4mm druk
Repeat to create a second drop.
STEP 5
String one 4mm druk and one clay rose onto an eye pin then create a simple loop. Repeat to create a second link.
STEP 6
Connect one ear wire, one clay rose link and one skull drop. Repeat to complete a second earring.
