Mothers of the Earth
On the night of her 30-year high school reunion, designer-artist Jody Young and her two dear friends were celebrating at a lake house prior to the event. Spirit Lake, where Jody spent her childhood summers, brought back happy memories and began to inspire her. Always traveling with her artistic supplies, the trio happily started beading and lost track of time. Needless to say, the women were too busy beading and never made it to the reunion, but the incredible wall hanging, Mothers of the Earth, was born.
Mothers of the Earth is a symbolic piece representing the elements of the earth. Jody thoughtfully selected three trees as the focus for this design: the Oak, representing strength and power, the Redwood, symbolizing balance and the Cottonwood, signifying intention, manifestation and honesty. The four porcelain faces, handmade by Washington artist Laura Mears, represent Jody's inspirations. In all her works, earth, water, air and fire are the soul of her designs, and by living in the Pacific Northwest, inspiration surrounds her daily.
Using seed beads, gemstone beads, a beaver stick and other inspiring items in a raised texture beading technique, Jody's piece is truly unique.
