Single-Strand Necklace and Earring Set with Celestial Crystal® and Silver-Finished Brass Beads and Kumihimo Imitation Silk Cord

Kumihimo Cord

STEP 1
Using scissors, cut seven 7-foot lengths of gold imitation silk cord.
STEP 2
Using flush-cutters, cut the following lengths of wire and chain:
  • Two 6-inch lengths of gold Zebra Wire™
  • Two 4-inch lengths of gold-plated 9x6mm Figaro chain
  • Untie knot on one end of the pre-strung bead and drop strand and slide off the first 6 beads and drops for use in the earring project. Tie another knot to secure the end.
  • Repeat to remove six beads and drops from the opposite end of the pre-strung strand for use in the earring project.
STEP 3
Match up one end of four strands of gold imitation silk cord. Fold the cords in half and match up the ends, creating eight strands. Using one 6-inch length of gold Zebra Wire, insert 1-inch through the fold in the cord then wrap the wire 2-3 times around itself leaving the long end of the wire straight. Pass the straight end of the wire through one 8x8mm gold-plated cord cap so it fits snugly around the cord and wire. Using round-nose pliers, flat-nose pliers and flush-cutters, create a wrapped loop on the straight end of the wire.
STEP 4
Place the cord cap through the center of the Kumihimo disk, and insert the cord strands through the slots on the disc in a basic 8-cord pattern. Weave the cord until it is 2 inches in length.

Center one 7-foot length of gold imitation silk cord over the disc and insert cord in opposite facing slots, to create the first set of doubled cords. Continue to weave one inch. Attach a second length of silk cord to create the second set of doubled cords and weave for one inch. Attach a third length of silk cord to create the third set of double cords. Continue to weave two inches. Add the cord end of the pre-strung bead and drop strand into one slot on the disc and continue weaving the 8 sets of double cord for a total of 12 inches incorporating the bead and drop strand as you weave.
STEP 5
Pass the end of a 6-inch length of Zebra Wire through the end of the woven cord and tightly wind the wire around the woven cord to secure the cord in place. Place a small amount of G-S Hypo cement on end of the woven cord.

Necklace

STEP 6
Using a pair of chain-nose pliers and flat-nose pliers, open a 5.5mm jumpring. Pass it through the loop on the toggle ring portion of the clasp and the first link on a 4-link length of chain. Close the jumpring. Repeat to attach the last link on the 4-inch length of chain and the wrapped loop on the first side of the woven cord.

Repeat to attach the second 4-inch length of chain to the toggle bar portion of the clasp and the opposite end of the woven cord.

Earrings

STEP 1
Using flush-cutters, cut two 1/2 inch lengths of gold-plated 9x6mm Figaro chain.
STEP 2
Using the beads and drops from the prestrung strand from Step 2 of the necklace project, string one 4mm bicone black Celestial Crystal bead, one 8mm faceted rondelle metallic green glass bead and one 4mm bicone black Celestial Crystal bead on a 1-1/2 inch eyepin. Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush-cutters, form a simple loop on the straight end of the wire creating a bicone and rondelle beading link. Repeat to create a second bicone and rondelle beading link.
STEP 3
Using a pair of chain-nose pliers and flat-nose pliers, open the loop on a bicone and rondelle beading link. Pass the loop through the loop on an earwire. Close the loop. Open the opposite loop on a bicone and rondelle beading link. Pass it through the first link on a 1/2 inch length of chain. Close the loop.
STEP 4
Open a 5.5mm jumpring. Pass it through the loop on an 8mm faceted rondelle metallic silver glass bead drop and the last link on a 1/2 inch length of chain. Close the jumpring. Repeat to attach an 8mm faceted rondelle metallic green glass bead drop to the left side of the first link on the 1/2 inch length of chain and an 8mm faceted rondelle metallic gold glass bead drop to the right side of the first link on the 1/2 inch length of chain.
STEP 5
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to create the second earring.
