- Kumihimo disk, EVA foam, white and black, 4-1/4 inch round with 22mm inside hole and 32 slots
Using scissors cut the following lengths of imitation silk cord:
Two 8-foot lengths black cord
Four 8-foot lengths rust cord
Two 8-foot lengths gold cord
One 6-inch length gold cord
Match one end each of the lengths of cord and tie and overhand knot approximately 1-foot from the end.
Pass the knotted ends through the center of the kumihimo disc.
To set up the disc, insert strands into the slots on either side of the dots with rust colored cord in top slots #32 and #1 and bottom slots #17 and #16, gold cord in right side slots #8 and #9 and black cord left side slots #24 and #25.
Beginning at the knot, create a spiral kumihimo braid approximately 24 inches long.
Remove the knot from the ends of the cord. Bring the ends through the center of the kumihimo disc until the braid is even on each end. Place a second cord of the same color in each slot already containing a cord.
Continue to create a spiral kumihimo braid connecting the two braided ends of cord.
Make a 3/4 inch loop on one end of the 6-inch length of gold cord. With your non-dominant thumb, hold it in place on the cord bundle at the base of the kumihimo braid.
Leaving approximately 1/4 inch tail, wrap the long end of the gold cord around the cord bundle and back over the loop. Continue to make several wraps around the bundle then thread the end of the binding cord through the loop from the opposite end.
Pull the opposite end of the binding cord to secure the wraps tight around the bundle. Pull both ends of the binding cord to secure the knot and wrap.
Note: Add a dab of adhesive to secure knot in place or leave as is so knot is able to slide back and forth across the bundled cords.
Trim the loose ends of the cord so they are staggered (between approximately 3-6 inches) so that each end is a different length.
String one Czech glass honey 6x4mm roller crow bead onto one cord end.
Fold the end of the cord back over itself approximately 1/2 inch. Twist the end of the cord forming a loop. Pass the end of the rope through the loop and pull tight leaving approximately 1/4 inch tail at the end. Repeat to attach one Czech glass honey 6x4mm roller crow bead to each end of cord.
