Single-Strand Necklace and Earring Set with Nickel Silver Sheet, Wirework and Wood Beads

Necklace

STEP 1
Using flush-cutters, cut the following:
  • Three 8.75-inch and nine 0.75-inch lengths of stainless steel 18-gauge square wire
  • Two 7-inch and two 20-inch lengths of stainless steel 22-gauge half-round wire
  • Two 4.25-inch lengths of stainless steel 18-gauge round wire
STEP 2
Draw a heart with a crown template on paper with the heart measuring 2x1.75 inches. Draw a five-pointed crown above the heart that measures 1 inch in height, 1.75 inches at its widest point and 1-inch wide where it meets the top of the heart. Transfer the design onto the nickel silver 32-gauge sheet.
STEP 3
Using sheers cut the design out of the sheet.
STEP 4
Place the heart-shaped portion of the sheet over the 18x16mm heart depression on the dapping block. Choose a punch that is smaller than the depression on the dapping block. Using the hammer, hammer the punch in the center of the heart depression. Move the angle of the hammer around the center of the metal sheet to continue to form the concave heart shape.
STEP 5
Place the metal sheet onto the steel block and flatten the sheet around the edges of the heart.
STEP 6
Using a texturing wheel, create straight lines in the center of each of the five points of the crown from the base of the crown to the points. Turn the sheet over and create four straight lines from the base of the crowns to the "V" portion in between each point. Turn the heart sheet back to the front and make multiple straight lines radiating out from the edge of the domed heart to the outer edge.
STEP 7
Using Dual EuroCrimper™ pliers create dimples in the flat portion of the heart sheet and half dimples all the way around the outer edge of the heart portion of the sheet.
STEP 8
Use sand paper to remove any burrs from the outer edge of the focal piece.
STEP 9
Using a red Sharpie®, color in the domed portion of the heart. Using a paint brush seal the top of the focal piece with a thin layer of Mona Lisa™ Metal Leaf™ top coat sealant.
STEP 10
Using the hole punch pliers, punch one 2.3mm hole 1/8 inch from the edge on the bottom middle point on the crown. Repeat to punch two holes 1/4 inch from the base of the crown from the right and left side. Repeat to punch two holes 1/8 inch from the edge 1/8 inch apart on the right edge of the heart.
STEP 11
Pass the ends of one 20-inch length of 22-gauge half-round wire through the back right hole at the base of the heart and back though the left hole. Wrap the end of the wire onto the opposite wire and continue to wrap the wire for four to five wraps around the front to back of the base of the heart. Tuck the end of the wire under the wrapped wire.
STEP 12
Cut two 10-inch lengths of light blue ribbon. Pass the ends of both lengths of ribbon through the left and right holes to the front of the focal piece. Tie the ribbons in a tight bow. Place a small amount of adhesive on the knot for added security.
STEP 13
Wrap the center of the second 20-inch length of 22-gauge half-round wire around the knot on the ribbon for three wraps. Then wrap the wire in a loose bow formation on top of the ribbon bow. Wrap the ends of the wire behind the knot on ribbon to secure the wire in place.
STEP 14
Place the end of 0.75-inch length of 18-gauge square wire on the larger jaw of the medium oval bail-making Wubbers® mandrel pliers and form the first loop. Cut the wire using the flat side of the flush cut wire. Repeat to create four 7x5mm jumprings.
STEP 15
To form the first 24x24mm wire heart component, place the end of 8.75-inch length of 18-gauge square wire on the larger jaw on the medium oval bail-making Wubbers mandrel pliers and form the first loop. Continue to create a spiral using flat nose pliers for two loops. Form the first leg of the heart shape 3/4 inch long. Form a V-shape in the wire. Place the opposite end of in the mandrel to form the second loop on the heart. Continue to create a spiral using flat-nose pliers for one additional loop. Bring the two lobes of the heart together so they touch in the center. Wrap a 7-inch length of half-round wire around one of the legs of the heart, wrapping the wire tightly for 1/2 inch. Cut any excess wire and tuck the end of the wire against the edge of the last loop.

Repeat using the same technique to form a 30x19mm oval S-shaped wire link and a 25x20mm hexagon S-shaped wire link with a wrapped half-round section on one of the legs of the hexagon.
STEP 16
Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush-cutters, create a wrapped loop on the end of a 4.25-inch length of 18-gauge round wire. String one wood 12mm round light brown bead onto the wire. Finish the straight end of the wire with a 4mm wrapped loop. Repeat to create a second wood 12mm round wrapped beading link.

Repeat to create one Swarovski dark red coral 8mm round wrapped beading link using one 7-inch length of 22-gauge half-round wire and one Swarovski dark red coral 8mm round bead.

Necklace Assembly

STEP 17
Using flush-cutters, cut a 10-inch length of Accu-Flex® professional-quality beading wire. String onto the wire one crimp tube and one silver plated Accu-Guard™ wire protector and the first loop on the Swarovski dark red coral 8mm round wrapped beading link. Pass the wire back through the crimp tube leaving one end of the wire approximately 1-inch long. Pull the crimp tight against the Accu-Guard. Place a small amount of adhesive inside the crimp (optional).

Using the crimping pliers, crimp the crimp tube. Using flush-cutters, trim the excess wire from the short end. Place a brass 4mm crimp cover over the crimp and gently close it.
STEP 18
String onto the beading wire thirty-six magnesite 4mm round beads.
STEP 19
Place one crimp tube and silver plated Accu-Guard onto the beading wire after the bead. Pass the beading back through the crimp, and then pull the wire snugly so the crimp is closer to the Accu-Guard. Make sure there is no slack along the length of the first part of the necklace. Place a small amount of gel adhesive inside the crimp (optional).

Using the crimping pliers, crimp the crimp tube. Using flush-cutters, trim excess wire from the end. Place a brass 4mm crimp cover over the crimp.
STEP 20
Repeat Steps 17-19 to attach a 10-inch length of Accu-Flex beading wire from the Accu-Guard attached after the last magnesite 4mm round bead.
STEP 21
