Superduo Bow Tie
Meet the Designer-Artist
Where do you live? Las Vegas, Nevada
What inspires you as a designer-artist? Everything! I see color palettes in everyday things, fashion mags inspire color and patterns and of course the beadsmiths of the world. Look at the tiny details of things, have you noticed the geometric shapes that are created by just pouring milk?!?
I am self-taught, if not for the beading magazines and those amazing bead weavers that share their designs in the form of patterns and tutorials I would not be anywhere near my goals. My hero is Sabine Lippert, but I also admire the talents of Christina Neit, Ella Des and Laura McCabe.
What medium do you work with mostly? A year ago I would have said you were crazy if you told me what I am about to type, but bead weaving has become my obsession. The possibilities are endless with those tiny little beads, the ever-expanding shapes and finishes and peyote stitch has become my go-to stitch.
Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making? I was diagnosed with Lupus and the symbol and color that represents the disease is a purple butterfly. I wanted to make an awareness bracelet and I found the Swarovski butterfly bracelet tutorial by Tim here on your site and that was the first thing I ever stitched. After that I decided to learn more stitches and here I am!
Where and How do you sell your jewelry? I have my own website (www.desertstarcreations.com) but I sell my items on Etsy (desertstarcreations.etsy.com).
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story? Superduo Bow Tie
What inspired this design? Playing with the awesome two-hole beads and this just came about. I was a little influenced by a ribbon project where I was practicing wrapping bows.
How did it come together? It was totally just coming together without a plan, just let the beads to the talking.
