We had such an exciting time at the 2013 fashion and accessories tradeshows in fabulous Las Vegas. It was a pleasure to meet many of our customers and speak with several other jewelry and fashion designers. The coming year looks very promising with new fashion concepts and jewelry styles trending well into 2014. We hope you enjoy this recap of the top trend elements we saw at the shows during the week of February 17th to 20th.

Traveling from Oregon, the Fire Mountain Gems team visited with exhibitors and spotted upcoming trends.

If you like lots of color in your designs then you're in for a treat as a noticeable bold color trend is going strong. Adding pops of color in designs or turning heads as variations of neon tones were a frequent sight at all three shows.

Some of the color palettes that caught our eye included mint, raspberry, tangerine, teal, coral and turquoise along with a large range of opaque colors, black/white combinations and the creative use of saturated color.

When it came to the beautiful display of druzy stones we saw both natural and imitation. Whether drilled or wire-wrapped, flashy or subdued this stone was turning heads in a variety of necklace styles. Druzy was often seen set in Apoxie® Sculpt and combined with sparkling chatons for added flair.

Flower Components Flowers:

This designer favorite is in full bloom and seen in varying shades of color along with a large variety of bright tones. Often carved or molded, stand-alone flowers and floral prints were a dominant style among several exhibitors.

Hoo knew? Owls were seen swooping in and landing on the hottest styles of jewelry, clothing, shoes and handbags. These nocturnal birds of prey were seen displayed in subtle and fun designs, adding a playful sense to accessories.

Design Ideas D103 Necklace and Earrings Small Chain:

Designers went big with SMALL chain. Several designs incorporated smaller and thinner styles of chain, typically in the 2-4mm size range. Multiple strands of chain were a popular design combination as the layered look was clean and untangled. Ball chain was also a big hit as this simple chain was seen with beautiful pendants and focal pieces.

A main design concept across all three shows was the hard and soft trend. Several designers displayed jewelry that incorporated a soft leather base embellished with hard metal studs or crystals. You couldn't go wrong with leather as it was seen in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. Generally the leather had a matte or subdued look to it and was seen on bracelets, belts and purses.

Men's Trend:

Now is a great time to extend your lines towards men's jewelry. As gentlemen continue to be more fashion conscious, designers are bringing in new styles for accessorizing the guys. While the look is often sophisticated, there were several instances of fun colors and added bling. Receiving much attention for men's accessories included tie tacks, cufflinks, belts and leather bracelets.

Other notable trends included:
  • Focal pieces were quite large, used as standout design elements
  • Bow charms and pins were seen as jewelry and fashion embellishments
  • Large cocktail style rings were still big, flashy and lots of fun
  • Piano wire was gaining popularity as the flexible coiled wire was seen in various design lengths
  • Bib-style collar necklaces were more evident in a variety of gemstones and brilliant colors
