Bold, statement jewelry is a key direction in bridal fashion, boasting dramatic pieces infused with late '40s flair. Earring designs are dripping in luxury while maintaining a reasonable price tag for budget-savvy brides. Opt for plated metals, crystal stones and glass pearls in lieu of 14Kt gold, diamonds and South Sea pearls to keep brides within their budgets without sacrificing beauty or elegance. DIY brides can save even more by making wedding jewelry for themselves and their bridesmaids.
Here's how Start with two Swarovski double-drilled, single-stone components and two medium-sized Swarovski crystal pearls. String onto 24-gauge, gold-plated headpins, two inches in length, with a pearl positioned between each single-stone component. Make a simple loop.
Open a 5mm jumpring and attach to an earwire. Add two 3mm jumprings to the 5mm jumpring and position side-by-side. Cut a two-inch length of Figaro chain and attach one end to a simple loop of the single-stone dangle and the other end to one of the 3mm jumprings attached to the earwire. Repeat for the other side.
Cut a 1-1/2 inch length of small-curb cable chain. Using 24-gauge headpins, make two pearl dangles and attach one to each end of the chain. Finish each with a simple loop. Approximately 3/4 of an inch from the mid-point of the chain, attach a chain link to the 5mm jumpring connected to the earwire.
