I am attempting to make a jeweled leather dog collar. I would like to affix rhinestones and other colored crystal stones to the smooth leather face of the collar. The stones I am using are framed and backed in silver tone metal without rivets or claws to grip the leather. What is the best way to permanently attach these stones to the leather collar?

You can glue any flat stone or rhinestone onto the collar using 2-part jeweler's 5-minute or 30-minute epoxy. There is about 4 minutes of working time with the 5-minute epoxy so only prepare a small amount at a time. The 5-minute is the best glue to use if you're working on a curved or dimensional surface as the glue sets up quickly and your stones won't slide down the surface. You have about 22 minutes of working time with the 30-minute epoxy. This is the best glue to use on flat surfaces as it offers more time to work and options to change any mistakes. The glue will get stringy when it starts setting up and you'll know it's time to discard the old glue and mix a new batch. Lay out your collar design first, and then mix up the glue according to the manufacturer's instructions. Find more information on Glue Types and Information for detailed directions. When you're finished, let fully cure for 24 hours before your pooch wears it.
