Single-Strand Necklace with Fiber Cord and Shell Focal Components

Drop, paua shell, 15mm flat round (4 drops)

Focals, mother-of-pearl (4 focals)

Focals, paua shell (1 focal)

Focals, laminated shell (1 focal)

Headpins, gold-filled (4 headpins)

Clasps, gold-filled, hook (1 clasp)

Ribbons, organza

Cord, fiber carded

Step 1

Tie three of the cut pieces of fiber and ribbon to one half of a clasp. Tie the other end to one of the mother-of-pearl focal pieces.

Step 2

Tie a second set of fiber and ribbon to the other side of the first focal piece, and then tie the other ends to a second focal piece.

Step 3

Tie another set of fiber and ribbon to the other side of the second focal piece, then tie it to the abalone or paua focal piece. This will be the center of your necklace.

Step 4

Add another set of fiber to the other side of the center piece and continue up the other side of the necklace adding two more focal pieces of mother-of-pearl. Tie the last end of the fiber and ribbon to the other end of the clasp.

Step 5

Using another set of fiber and ribbon pieces, attach the laminated focal piece to the center piece of your necklace.

Step 6

Add one paua flat end to a headpin and make a simple loop. Attach loop to hole in focal mother-of-pearl shell.
