Topics: Amethyst Value

Q.
I have a long amethyst necklace and I'm curious to know the approximate value. What do you suggest as far as selling these beads? Thank you kindly.
- Nancy
A.
The value of a gemstone is largely based on its grade and there are a lot of steps that go into grading a gemstone. Each step of the grading process focuses on a different feature and has many details that create the overall grade determination. An ''A'' grade amethyst is a deep purple hue with few inclusions, thus the most expensive type. A ''B'' grade is slightly lighter in color with more inclusions and therefore less valuable. Learn more about this stone in the ''Gem Notes'' section of our website.

Note: Inclusions are the fingerprints of a gemstone, and can be helpful in revealing a gem's identity, how it was formed, and even the source locality.
